Friendship Island - Student

Big Idea — While we often view relationships as what others do to us, the Bible tells us that the focus of friendship is on us: “A man that hath friends must show himself friendly” (Proverbs 18:24) we can’t always control who moves in and out of our circle of friends, we can make ourselves more attractive to others by becoming a better friend. 

• Week 1 — If All Your Friends Jumped off a Cliff…
The point of this lesson is to offer perspective. Although teens do not experience a “friendship” with their parents in the truest sense, the more they work on themselves, the better the relation-ship with their parents becomes.

• Week 2 — Buddies, Besties, and Frenemies
This lesson will look at your students’ relationships with their specific  peer group with a slant to-ward their peer group within the church. It explores the power of words and deals with the issue of bullying   is is a particularly important lesson for junior high students, though the principles are certainly applicable in high school as well.

• Week 3 — Open the Doors and See All the People
This lesson looks at the local church as a whole. Inter-generational relationships can be difficult  for teens, and even adults, to navigate. We’ll focus on how to interact with adults and church leadership.

• Week 4 — Won’t You Be My Neighbor?
This lesson focuses on our commission to reach the lost the best way to win a soul is by being a friend. We’ll examine how to interact with non-believers and people who are just plain different.
