Counter Culture - Student
Big Idea — Today’s humanistic culture sends very dangerous messages about God, the Bible, and absolute truth. If we are to conquer those messages, we must deny ourselves, take up our cross, and follow Christ. This series will prove that embracing our current culture puts us in direct conflict with the Word of God and provide tools to refute society’s humanistic messages.
• Week 1 — “When in Rome . . .”
Rejecting a Secular Worldview We can live in this world but not be of it if we learn to view our culture through the lens of God’s Word and not vice versa.
• Week 2 — “If It Feels Good . . .”
Rejecting the Lust of the Flesh Part of adolescence is being awakened to desires that lay dormant during our childhood. Our culture tells us that we should explore those desires . . . no boundaries or safeguards required. This lesson will explore why this is dangerous and how to overcome those lustful desires.
• Week 3 — “You Can Look at the Menu . . .”
Rejecting the Lust of the Eyes Have you ever heard the phrase, “It’s okay, as long as you don’t get caught?” Our society preaches that unless you are caught in the act, you have not done anything wrong. This lesson will explore the importance of our thought life and how to keep it under control.
• Week 4 — “He Who Dies with the Most Toys . . .”
Rejecting the Pride of Life Materialism is one of the driving forces of our current culture. We are taught from childhood that the goal is to climb the ladder as high as we can (social, career, etc.), as fast as we can, regardless of who we hurt in the process. This lesson will explore how to set aside these lies to find God’s plan for our lives.
